Guemes Island Ferry Fares and Schedule

New Expiration Dates
For Frequent Use Media

Islanders,

In our effort to keep you informed about ferry matters, we invite you to view a resolution (below) that will be presented to the Skagit County Board of Commissioners on Monday, June 16, 2008.

Glen Veal has been asked by Public Works to comment on the resolution, and he will be supporting it on behalf of the Ferry Committee. The meeting on the 16th is not a public hearing, but a "stand-alone" meeting.
In brief, the resolution sets expiration dates for Frequent-Use Media.

Most media will expire the end of this year, with some notable exceptions, which are outlined in the resolution. Attached to the resolution is a page (below) showing how the expiration dates will appear on the published ferry schedule and fares.

There are two main reasons for these changes. One is that the County would like to eliminate unlimited frequent use passes, because there is no way to reconcile passenger counts for accounting purposes with these types of media. We agree with this.

The other reason is that we (via the Round Table) are working on developing a new fare structure for 2009. Establishing expiration dates will help in the transition to the new fare structure. New frequent-use media will be developed for 2009.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Guemes Island Ferry Committee Announcement

On January 7, 2007 participants at the quarterly Ferry Committee meeting voted to prioritize their top 5 concerns to be addressed at 2007 Ferry Committee/Public Works Roundtable meetings. Setting aside the extended schedule as a separate item, a top concern was returning to the daily weekday and weekend schedule in place prior to July 1, 2006.

In response to this prioritized mandate, the March and April Roundtable meetings focused on this topic and agreement on a proposed schedule was reached at last Tuesday's Roundtable meeting. This proposal will be made public within the next week as soon as it is typed and reviewed for accuracy.

Details of this proposal will be discussed at the next quarterly Ferry Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, May 14, at 7:00 pm at the Community Hall. The following week a public hearing will be held on May 21, 2007 at the Board of County Commissioner's meeting room in Mount Vernon. Look for future announcements re: the time the hearing will be held.

The Ferry Committee encourages you to save both of these important dates. We invite you to join in the discussion at the public meeting on May 14, 2007, and urge you to attend the public hearing on May 21, 2007.

To clarify--this proposed schedule does NOT address the extended schedule in place after 5:45 Monday through Thursday.

Passenger Ferry Accessibility Public Meeting

The Guemes Island Ferry Committee hosted a discussion meeting for ferry users who are unable to utilize the passenger ferry due to mobility challenges. [12.7.04]

Guemes Island Ferry Committee Joins Linetime

The Ferry Committee has decided that its time to get “On Board” Linetime. The cost of maintaining our own web site and the convenience to the readership in accessing a single Guemes Island web site is compelling. You may have noticed that our new location on Linetime is now accessible under the “Organization Menu”. Our old web site will be discontinued about the first of the new year. The Ferry Committee thanks Linetime for the opportunity to join.
